Its no longer news of how Social Media is used this days to spread information even fake news and real news and for awhile now, Social Media giants like Facebook have been trying to reduce the spread of fake news to the minimum.
WhatsApp is adding additional restriction to curb the spread of fake news on its platform… According to what Facebook owned messaging platform said today, that any message that has been forwarded five or more times will now face a new limit that will prevent a user from forwarding it to more than one chat (contact) at a time.
If you can recall, sometimes last year, the messaging app rolled out a feature that limits people from forwarding a message to more than 5 persons at once which led to a 25% decrease in message forwards globally at the time.
WhatsApp says that the company has seen a significant increase in the number of forwarded messages and it might lead to the spread of fake information during this lockdown period. As a result, it is introducing a limit so that these messages can only be forwarded to one chat at a time.
Apart from this, to help users with correct information, WhatsApp is working directly with the governments, WHO, NGOs and over 20 national health ministries.
Before you forward any message to anybody, it is important you verify the information if it is right or fake…atleast google is just a few seconds away from giving you the answers you need.
The update is already available, you can update to have the new feature.
