Now, according to the latest reports, the well-known chip company AMD is sending out free processors to all its users who were facing firmware issues.

This happened to buyers of the new Ryzen 5 2400G, which has an integrated GPU. It requires a firmware update on the motherboard; otherwise, the computer will not boot. Only, to upgrade the firmware, you need a processor. And now? AMD solved the issue in a peculiar way: sending a new chip to users.

In a supporting report, AMD explains that socket AM4 is used by Ryzen processors and was released in 2017; since then, there have been several upgrades, including to support chips with integrated GPUs. The solutions offered are classic (updating the BIOS in the hardware store or temporarily installing a processor that is supported) and a new one, called the Boot Kit Solution.

According to a well-known media source, this kit consists of a fan and a dual-core processor AMD A6-9500, the cheapest model with integrated GPU available in the market. Simply order the kit, install the temporary processor, upgrade the firmware of the motherboard and then put the new chip, which will operate normally.

For a moment, users thought they were getting a free processor (it’s a basic model, but for free upfront injection), but AMD asks for the chip to be sent back. Strangely, the company requests that the kit fan (which is not compatible with the Ryzen chips) is maintained with the user.
