Russian hackers have used the anti-virus program developed by Kaspersky Labs to steal classified data from the United States National Security Agency (NSA) from the computer of one of its contractors.
According to the reports from WSJ, the entire event took place in the year 2015, and it was discovered in early 2016. Well, this is the third case of an unnamed NSA contractor breaching NSA’s security after Snowden and Booz Allen.
The unnamed NSA contractor took the classified codes and other records to his home where he operated on the same using his personal computer. He was using Kaspersky Antivirus on his personal computer. The reports claim that Russian hackers have exploited Kaspersky package and stole the secret files.
Well, right now it is still unclear how Kaspersky was exploited to execute the hack. Whether the software package was already programmed by the company to spy on NSA material or hackers have targeted it at a later stage.
NSA is really having a hard time controlling how their secret data is been shared and taken care of. Kaspersky founder Eugene Kaspersky in response to WSJ claimed that his company doesn’t have any ties with Russian Government.
