Back in 2012, Facebook introduced an email service which hasn’t really been successful. It didn’t really catch on despite the effort Facebook made to make the email service widely acceptable. In 2014, the service was partially shut down. You could still redirect emails to your @facbook.com email to other email services.
However, Facebook is set to completely shut down this service. As from the 1st of May, the redirection will stop working. In a message sent to users who are using the email redirection, Facebook said:
If you have online services with your Facebook email on file, now is the time to edit your account settings and change the email. The email has never been popular and only a very small fraction of Facebook users actually use it. Majority do not even know about its existence.
If you haven’t been using the email service, you have nothing to worry about. For those with redirect enabled, it is advisable to update your account details on online services where you use the email. Failure to do may lead to loss of important messages when the @facebook.com email service is finally axed on May 1st.

After May 1, 2016, you will no longer be able to receive email sent to [username@facebook.com]. Please update your email address for any services that currently send email to [username@facebook.com].
