Two final year students , Bassey Ekemini and Obot Victor of the University of Uyo recently developed a solar water heater with automatic sun tracking system as their project. The duo, technically supported by Robert Peters successfully carried out the project as Mechanical Engineer students.
The project aimed at designing and constructing a solar water heater with increased efficiency has been carried out incorporating a solar tracking system with a parabolic solar collector in order to track the sun's path through the day, ensuring a direct exposure to the sun in other to maximize radiant heat transfer during daylight.
The results have been beyond expectations as a shorter heating time, higher temperature, prolonged heating time, and higher efficiency have been achieved.
