The Biggest iPhone 6 Feature is Coming to Samsung Galaxy S7
This is no rumor: Samsung Galaxy S7 will feature something very similar to the 3D Touch on the iPhone 6s. According to The Wall Street Journal, Samsung Galaxy S7 is going to feature a “pressure sensitive display” along with some other features mentioned in the journal. The next line of devices may look similar to the existing Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge
Just last week , Samsung settled Apple $548m in damages after losing a number of patent infringement lawsuits dating back to 2012. Directly using a technology similar to Apple’s 3D Touch might give rise to another case but we may have to wait to see how that plays out.
According to Jonathan Cheng at WSJ,
The pressure-sensitive display…will be similar to that offered by rival Apple Inc. on the iPhone 6S earlier this year. The responsive display allows the phone to interpret different taps and touches depending on how the user presses on the touch screen.
Other Samsung Galaxy S7 Features
Samsung will also be implementing a new high-speed charging port on it’s next line of smartphones which should be launched around March 2016 and unveiled at Mobile World Congress. This is likely going to be a USB Type-C port with fast-charging capability. As with Samsung Galaxy S6, the next line of devices will have different variants too: Samsung Galaxy S7 with a flat screen and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with a curved screen. Both devices will bear close resemblance with their immediate predecessors but with a major upgrade to the camera which is going to be redesigned to remove the bump seen on the Galaxy S6. Here is what a previous leak of the device shows:
Samsung decided to remove the SD card option from Samsung Galaxy S6 but the report claims this is coming back in the next line of devices. Samsung Galaxy S7 will allow you to use an SD card but the option won’t be available in the version with a curved screen. This is coming at a time when Google gave the SD card more importance with the introduction of adoptable storageon Android Marshmallow.
Another feature which is likely to be present on the upcoming device is retina scanner to further improve fingerprint recognition. This may not make it to the final retail product though.
